In the region of Arequipa are the deepest guns of Peru, the Colca (3400msnm) and the Cotahuasi (3535msnm), turned into paradise of the lovers of the tourism of nature and adventure. The valley of the Colca contains archaeological vestiges of the Collagua, old inhabitants of the zone, such as mysterious petroglyphs and caves where they keep colcas or containers to store cereals.
To both margins of the river they are distributed fourteen towns founded on century XVI to group in them the descendants of the Collagua who were dispersed in the area. Approximately to 40 km of Chivay, first of the towns of the route, an incomparable natural viewpoint is from where the flight of the Condor is observed, king of the zone, while they are descried, to far, volcanos Coropuna and Ampato.
The tube of the Cotahuasi is more far from Arequipa, but it compensates the smaller presence of tourism. It is located in an interAndean valley, where are traditional towns, thermal, cataracts and snow-covered waters. Most of the tourist activities of this place are made concerning the river by the bottom of the tube. In him is the Cataract of Sipia that has a free fall of 150m. This region is perfect for sports of adventure like trekking, boating, hang-glider, wing delta, mountain bicycle, rock scaling, fishes, excursions to horse, etc.
The valley of Cotahuasi is surrounded by beautiful and colorful towns with colonial churches, that, in their majority, maintain their characteristics traditional. Their attractive archaeological ones go from Cave paintings of immemorial times to ways and incaicas constructions.
The cultural identity of the rural communities constitutes an attractive singular for the visitors. It is possible to be enjoyed one varied sample of folklore and Andean crafts, besides delicious wines produced in the region. Cotahuasi is also known as the town the weavers of carpets. Sample of it is the carpet of 200 m2 that is from year 1924 in the Palace of Government.
