The department of Chimaltenango, located on a plateau of the Mountain range Mother, is characterized by lands broken, deep precipices, beautiful valleys and extensive plains. It is crossed by the Pan-American Highway. Its climate is tempered.
It enters the archaeological centers to visit are possible to be mentioned: Iximché, that was the great ceremonial center of señorío Cakchiquel, and where the first capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala in 1524 was based; another archaeological center, of most important of the country, is the one of Old Mixco, inhabited by Pocomames and with architecture similar to the one of Iximché.
In the neighborhood of Comapala beautiful places of attractive natural exist, among them, the Hill of Guadalupe, the Valley of Kekchij and the spas: The Delights, the Perén and the one of Valerio. The greater identification of Comalapa is their traditional weaves and the primitivist paintings realized by the capable hands of some comalapenses.
As tourist centers are: the spa the Aposentos, the baths of Pixcayá, the Delights and Pequeño River in Comalapa, the bath Water Eye in San Martin Jilotepeque, the caves of Venice and caves of the Devil, the cataracts of the Tower and the Nicán River, these last ones in San Miguel Pochuta.
