In 1.824, Cotacachi is elevated to the category of corner by Simon Bolivar, and in 1.861 it initiates his administrative political life with the name of Santa Ana de Cotacachi.
The city and the corner take the name of majestic Cotacachi volcano. The Cotacachi Corner is located in the Province of Imbabura, to the north of Quito, capital of Ecuador.
