One is an extensive marsh area, equivalent in the middle of Spain, of approximately about 230,00 km2s, shared with Bolivia and Paraguay.

In spite of his name, it is not a great marsh, but an extensive plain that in its origin was an inner sea, soon an immense lake, and now is an immense plain that is flooded periodically (of October to March).

During the time of rains, the waters fill of fish and the animal pools numerous and plants. Enormous flocks of birds arrive here to form colonies of several square kilometers.

Once it begins to back down the water (as of March), a savannah grows the grass forming, and then, caymans and hawks dispute the food of the pools. The best time is this one to visit the Pantanal (April-May and September-October).

The temperatures are high and by day fresh at night. In November and December the temperatures are highest and the mosquitos attack with all forces. In February and March the precipitations are so strong that the tracks are practically impassable.

The Pantanal, call also “No-man's land” has few inhabitants and in him there is no city. The distances are enormous and the little and restricted terrestrial transport, according to the stations of the year. A highway only exists, without asphalting, well-known like the “Transpantaneira”. The environmental lack of resources and restrictions maintain this zone without urbanizing.

Peculiarly, the Pantanal, in spite of being National Park, belongs, to a large extent to private property. From the year 2000, the Pantanal happened to thicken the list of the Patrimony of the Humanity of UNESCO.

In order to visit the Pantanal a good equipment is needed to make against warm days, fresh nights, and mosquitos: glasses of sun, solar protector, hat, slight articles, of long sleeve and long, repulsive pants of insects, boots, raincoat and something of shelter for the nights. Not to forget the prisms binocular for the observation animal, neither the awakener to rise to the dawn, nor a lantern and by all means the camera of photos. This one is the paradise of the fan to the photography.

She is one of the zones that more opportunities offer for the observation of wild fauna.
