Paraguay is a bilingual, unique country in the world where a native language, the guaraní (own of the guaraníes, native Indians of the zone), remains effective for centuries coexisting with the acquired Spanish of the conquerors. In music, Literature and the daily treatment, the guaraní is present like a basic element of the cultural Paraguayan.
The guaraní has been traditionally the vernacular language of all the social classes, the one of daily use in the Paraguayan life and its social acceptance always was parallel to the one of the Spanish, in resistance to which it still happened or it happens in the rest of America where that speaks the native language undergoes racial discrimination.
Reason by that the guaraní survives, by which not force has lost his creative, by that it has created a Literature that interests to its speakers, is clear and simple: the guaraní has stopped being an indigenous language to be the instrument of expression of the collective feelings of a town. The guaraní language has become a luck of foundation of the local patriotism.
The social acceptance that always had the guaraní goes, even, growing lately by its use in the education, mass media, and their promulgation, in 1992, like official language of the country. It is more, the Ministries of Culture of the Mercosur are pending to approve his inclusion like official language of the integration block, like they are it the Spanish and the Portuguese.
