Momostenango, known formerly like “Chuimekená” (“place of the hot water”), offers a great amount of thermal sources, like Shovel, the Precipice, Salitre and Paxeyú. Also they are famous the Riscos de Momostenango, that was declared national park in 1955, but to that at the moment the entrance of the public due to the erosion is not allowed.
The settlers still conserve their Mayan customs, which are transmitted of generation in generation. Worthy to emphasize it is the celebration in Momostenango, every 260 days, of the Wakxaquib Batz or Mayan New Year in the diverse existing ceremonial centers in near hills. One is embankments where the ceremony of purification of the New Year takes place that includes long hours of oration, incense and liquor.
In the artisan thing, the weaves are very recognized national level. The famous ponchos of Momostenango are typical.
