She is well-known by the beauty of his natural surroundings and its old woman colonial houses of property.

The landscape is characterized by the resistances between mountain range and valleys.

Its population of origin aymara. It was founded by the Spaniards so that it served as scale towards the auriferous region of Pelechuco and Tipuani. In century XVIII it was attacked and destroyed by the Bolivian-Peruvian Indian revolt, led by the grandson of Tupac Amaru. During the site, that lasted 3 months, the Spaniards died most of who lived there.

At the beginning of century XX it was producing rubber center, cocaine and quinine, acquiring the splendor that still keep certain buildings.

Today, the main activity constitutes the mountain and adventure tourism. It continues being a calm town, where the life rate stays to low pulsations and where it is possible to be witness of the slow one to trajinar of the population in his daily routine.
