The Department of Totonicapán is located in the region I SAW or South-western region of Guatemala. Its departmental head is Totonicapán.
Totonicapánpresenta an imposing temple of beautiful altarpieces and impressive murals of century XVI, a market outdoors, considered greatest of the plateau, and the Cave of Chumundo-Jail.
They cannot stop visiting itself: the Municipal Theater, the House of the Culture, the sulphured water baths and the Cave of San Miguel and the temple and convent rich ornamented, with altarpieces of centuries XVII and XVIII.
The religious celebration par excellence is celebrated in honor to santo employer San Miguel Arcángel in the month of September, being the 29 the main day. In the aspect folkloric, in Totonicapán they emphasize several traditional dances as the Conquest, Torito, Deer, Masks, Gracejos, Cattle tenders, Xacalcojes, the Flying Wood, Pascarines, Moors and Christians, Dance of the Monkeys, Centuriones.
Totonicapán is considered Mecca of the popular crafts. The artisan products have great demand by their variety and quality: weaves of cotton and wool, traditional ceramics and vidriada, products of wood and iron, ironmongery, leather, construction equipments, pyrotechnics, basketwork, etc.
